MYTHS

Only certain kinds of people can be hypnotised

People can differ in their hypnotic capabilities, ranging from low, medium, high and very high. Most people have experiences of hypnotic phenomena in their everyday lives, such as being absorbed in reading a good book or watching a good movie. Evidence suggests that pregnant women as a group are particularly responsive to utilize hypnosis in a therapeutic way.

Hypnosis is caused by the power of the hypnotist

Hypnosis is a frame of mind that clients allow themselves to be guided into by the therapist. Effective hypnosis cannot be achieved without a therapeutic, trusting relationship between client and hypnotherapist. Entering hypnosis is a personal choice where the client is empowered to resolve their concerns.

One can be stuck in hypnosis

Hypnosis involves focused attention and concentration. It is impossible to become ‘stuck’ in a state of concentration.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will I lose control?

In hypnosis you are not under anybody’s control. Hypnosis is not something that is imposed on you, but rather something that you do yourself with the hypnotherapist as the guide. As your hypnotherapist I would never ask you to do anything that you did not want to do or something that was against your values. Similarly, you will never have to reveal anything to me that you do not want to.

How can hypnosis help?

Hypnosis is a technique that enhances concentration and increases suggestibility, while simultaneously decreasing sensory awareness. During this period hypnosis best amplifies people’s abilities. This includes their hidden abilities such as the capacity to better adapt to a change in their circumstances or reduce the subjective experience of pain, for example childbirth. Hypnosis empowers people to discover and develop strengths in themselves they didn’t know they had, and the consequences in people’s lives are nothing short of extraordinary.

How many sessions will I need?

Childbirth preparation involves 3 one-on-one individualised sessions.

For all other hypnotic requirements, the number of sessions you need depends on the issues that you wish to deal with. This will be best discussed with me in person.
